Refreshing Organic Blackberry Tea
An ice cold glass of blackberry tea is a refreshing, organic drink that you can feel good about drinking and giving your family. And it tastes like something you would get at a fancy restaurant!
Blackberry tea has a hint of the tart taste of blackberries, but not too strong. If you want to switch up the beverages that you drink at home, I want to encourage you to give this blackberry tea a try!
How to Make Organic Blackberry Tea
To make blackberry tea, steep dry blackberry tea leaves in hot or recently simmered water (that has cooled down slightly) for 7 minutes or longer.
If you’ve read my post on organic peach tea, you know that I won’t go back to the popular tea packets found in grocery stores that often have harmful things I don’t want to ingest.
But the good news is that I’ve found out how to keep my family hydrated and satisfied with healthy, organic loose leaf teas. And the best part is that we save money when we buy in bulk!
For example, we buy the one pound packages of stevia and loose leaf teas. I would love to say that a one pound package of tea would last us for one year, but it’s more like six months.
However, I can say that it’s much cheaper per gallon to make tea this way than it was when I was buying family size boxes of other tea!

Ingredients
blackberry tea dry leaves – I like to get organic blackberry tea from Positively Tea Company. All their packages have zip tops to easily reseal your tea leaves to keep it fresh!
stevia dry leaves – I also like to get dried stevia leaves from Positively Tea Company. You can buy a bulk one-pound bag to save some extra money!
sugar – This is optional, but I like to use a little bit of organic cane sugar in our sweet tea.
water – Use good, filtered water if you can. If all you have is tap water, let a gallon of water sit out overnight so the chlorine evaporates.
Tools you may need
glass mason jars with lids (One pint jar with lid plus one half-gallon jar for the tea.)
measuring spoons
medium stainless steel pot
spatula
Instructions for making blackberry tea
This recipe will make one half-gallon of blackberry tea. You can easily double the recipe for more tea, though.
Make a blackberry tea blend
Sweet blackberry tea blend – Make a sweetened blackberry tea blend by combining one cup of blackberry tea leaves with a quarter cup of dried stevia leaves.
Unsweet blackberry tea blend – You can leave out the stevia leaves if you don’t want a sweet tea.
I like to do this step in advance and store my blackberry tea blend in a pint mason jar kept in my cupboard with other tea blends.
Then, shake the blackberry tea blend well in the jar until it is well combined and store it out of direct sunlight.
Brew your blackberry tea
Add one cup of water to a medium stainless steel pot. Then let it come to a simmer or slow boil on the stove and take the pot off the heat. This step should only take about 10 to 13 minutes depending on your stove.
Next, add two tablespoons of the organic blackberry tea blend to the hot water and let it steep for at least 7 minutes. If you like a strong tea, allow it to steep for 15 minutes or more.
It may look like a lot of tea leaves in your pot but don’t be nervous. Remember that you are using loose leaf tea and not compacted and broken down tea leaf dust from ordinary tea packets.
Get out one half-gallon glass mason jar. If you want to add more sweetness to your tea, add a quarter cup of sugar to the bottom of your jar.
While your tea is steeping, set a stainless steel funnel into the top of your jar and set a fine mesh sieve over the funnel to catch the tea leaves when you are ready to pour it out.
When the tea has steeped for at least 7 minutes, it’s time to pour it out into your tea jar.
Carefully pour the tea through the sieve and funnel into the jar.
Use a long spatula to stir and combine the tea and sugar if you added sugar earlier. Make sure the sugar dissolves all the way. This step only takes a minute or so.
Next, top off your tea jar with water and stir to combine. I love my Berkey water filter but use the water that you have.
Last, add a lid and refrigerate your tea. You and your family will enjoy this delicious, refreshing, organic blackberry tea all year long!
If you’re making peach tea or regular black tea, it might be helpful to label your lids like I do to distinguish which tea is in which identical jar.
Tips for making blackberry tea.
1 – You don’t want to add your tea leaves to actively boiling water or the tea might turn bitter.
2 – The longer you let your tea steep, the stronger it will be. I like strong tea, so I usually let my tea steep for 30 minutes or until it cools down all the way.
3 – The cane sugar is optional but adds a different sweetness to your tea. You can try drinking your tea with or without the stevia or sugar.
Alternatively, you can try adding a bit of raw, local honey. But I would limit the honey to an eighth of a cup since it’s so strong. Play around with the recipe and do what you like!
4 – You can squeeze out the liquid from the tea leaves with a spoon or fork, but small blackberry tea leaf particles may get pushed through into your tea jars.
If that bothers you, you can add a coffee filter to your fine mesh sieve to catch any tiny tea leaves that would otherwise work their way through. I would use an unbleached coffee filter, though. You could also use a small piece of flour sack towel.
