How to Make Jello Using Beef Gelatin
Jello is a simple and delicious dessert to make when you use beef gelatin and your own fruit juice. If you’ve only made jello using the small boxes from the grocery store, I want to encourage you to try this simple (almost too simple) recipe! It’ll be healthier in the long run, too!!

Kids love eating jello and mine are no exception. I was never one to buy the prepackaged jello mixes from the store so we went without jello for a long time. That is, until I discovered beef gelatin!
Now the kids can have a healthy dessert any time they want!
This recipe is almost too simple to even document but I want to put it out there anyway in case some of you need inspiration.
Instructions for Making Jello Using Beef Gelatin
You can use any fruit juice you have on hand. I had some home-canned cherries that we opened up recently and I saved all the juice for turning into cherry jello.
As for sweeteners, you can leave your jello unsweetened if you want or you can add sugar (preferably organic) or a bit of honey. Really, it’s up to you. Taste the juice and sweeten (or not) the way you like.
First, add some water to a small measuring cup (how much water you want to add is up to you).
Your beef gelatin package should have instructions for how much to add for your total volume of liquid. I had about a cup and a half of cherry juice that I wanted to thin out a bit. So I added about a cup of water to my measuring cup.
My beef gelatin calls for one tablespoon for every pint (16 ounces) of liquid. Since I had 20 ounces of total liquid (12 ounces of juice plus 8 ounces of water), I added one tablespoon plus one teaspoon of gelatin to the cool water. The recipe card below will use even numbers to make it easier.
It’s important to mix the beef gelatin in cool to cold water for at least a minute. If you don’t, your jello could turn out gritty!
Then, get out a small saucepan for heating up your juice. Add your fruit juice and bring it up to a hot simmer.
Take your juice off the heat and add your water with beef gelatin to the hot juice and mix it in well.
Then pour it into a glass dish and add a lid.
Cool your jello down for a few hours and it’ll be a nice, healthy surprise for your loved ones!
